How to move from Atera to Syncro
To move from Atera to Syncro, copy your API key from Atera (Admin, Data management, API), paste it into Syncro's Atera Importer (Admin, RMM Settings, Migration Tools), and let it bring across customers, contacts, tickets and ticket comments in that order. Syncro then gives you a script to install its agent through Atera on every machine. Invoices, scripts, automation profiles and alert thresholds do not come across, so plan to rebuild those.
Written with respect. We ran an MSP on several of the products we compare, we rate them, and without them Helios would not exist. These pages are here because buyers deserve the facts, not because we want a fight.
The short answer
- Syncro's Atera Importer lives at Admin, RMM Settings, Migration Tools, then the Atera tile (Syncro documentation, checked 29 September 2026).
- It needs your Atera API key, from Admin, Data management, API in Atera, and a rate limit value. Syncro says to use 400 if you are unsure.
- It imports customers, contacts, tickets and ticket comments, in that order. Atera invoices are not imported.
- Add Atera's ticket statuses to Syncro's ticket settings first. Otherwise imported tickets show a blank status and none arrive as resolved.
- Machines move when the Syncro agent is installed. The importer gives you a script to mass-install it through Atera, attached to the right customer.
- Scripts, automation profiles, alert thresholds and agent history do not transfer to any product. Budget to rebuild them.
The steps, in order
- Map ticket statuses first. In Syncro, add the ticket statuses you use in Atera to your ticket settings. Imported tickets keep their Atera status, and without a match they display blank and stay open.
- Copy your Atera API key. In Atera, open Admin, then Data management, then API, and copy the key.
- Open the importer. In Syncro, go to Admin, RMM Settings, Migration Tools, and choose the Atera tile.
- Connect. Paste the API key and enter a rate limit. Check your Atera plan for the right figure; Syncro suggests 400 if you are unsure.
- Run the import. Customers come first, then contacts, then tickets, then ticket comments. Syncro warns it can take several minutes with many customers.
- Install the Syncro agent. Use the script the importer provides to mass-install the agent through Atera, so each machine lands under the right customer.
- Rebuild what does not move. Recreate scripts, automation profiles, alert thresholds and patch policies in Syncro, and keep your Atera invoice history separately.
- Run both, then remove Atera last. Leave the Atera agent in place until every machine reports into Syncro and patching works there. Uninstall Atera at the very end.
What comes across, and what does not
| Data | Moves with the importer? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Customers | Yes | Name, phone, address and notes or domain |
| Contacts | Yes | Name, email, title and phone |
| Tickets | Yes | ID, title, status, type, contact, priority and resolved date |
| Ticket comments | Yes | Comment text |
| Machines | Through the agent | Arrive as the Syncro agent installs, via the importer's script |
| Invoices | No | Syncro says Atera invoices are not imported |
| Scripts and automation profiles | No | Rebuild them in Syncro |
| Alert thresholds and patch policies | No | Rebuild them in Syncro |
| Agent history and metrics | No | Stays in Atera; export anything you must keep before you cancel |
The one step people skip
Ticket statuses. The importer carries each ticket's Atera status across, but Syncro only shows statuses it already knows. Skip the mapping and your whole ticket history lands looking open, with a blank status, and none of it counts as resolved in reports.
Five minutes in ticket settings before you press import saves an afternoon of cleaning up afterwards.
If you have not decided on Syncro yet
Syncro costs $129 per technician a month on Core and $179 on Team, billed annually, with unlimited endpoints. See Syncro pricing and Syncro vs Atera for the detail.
The importer is a good reason to pick Syncro if moving tickets matters most to you. If it does not, the export is the same whichever product you choose: what Atera lets you export covers the CSV reports and the API-only cases. Helios takes that export as one file and brings your customers across, then its agent enrols each machine, with the service desk and Helio, the AI that works tickets, included on every plan.
Common questions
Does Syncro import Atera tickets?
Yes. The Atera Importer brings across tickets and their comments, with each ticket's ID, title, status, type, contact, priority and resolved date. Add your Atera statuses to Syncro's ticket settings first, or the tickets show a blank status.
Does the Atera Importer move invoices?
No. Syncro's documentation says Atera invoices are not imported, so keep your invoice history from Atera separately.
Do I need to reinstall agents when moving from Atera to Syncro?
Yes. Machines move by installing the Syncro agent. The importer gives you a script to mass-install it through Atera, attaching each machine to the right customer.
Where is the API key in Atera?
In Atera, go to Admin, then Data management, then API. Syncro also asks for a rate limit value and suggests 400 if you are unsure.
Can I export Atera to CSV instead of using the API?
Partly. Atera exports reports as CSV, but tickets and contacts have no bulk export button and come out through the API. Migrating off Atera covers each case.
What does not transfer from Atera to any product?
Scripts, automation profiles, alert thresholds, patch policies and agent history. Plan to rebuild them, and run both agents side by side until the new one is proven.
