Head to head

NinjaOne vs Atera: the fleet-shape decision

By the Helios team · Last checked July 2026

These are two of the best products in the category, and for once the honest answer is not 'it depends' but a number: how many devices each of your technicians manages. Helios competes with both, so treat this page as a well-sourced opinion; the numbers themselves are dated and linked.

Written with respect. We ran an MSP on several of the products we compare, we rate them, and without them Helios would not exist. These pages are here because buyers deserve the numbers, not because we want a fight.

The short answer

  • NinjaOne prices per endpoint: its published range is $1.50 to $3.75 per endpoint per month by volume, quote-based beyond that (checked 22 August 2026).
  • Atera prices per technician with unlimited endpoints: $129 to $209 per technician per month billed annually after its June 2026 repricing.
  • The crossover: at a $3 per device quote, Atera Growth ($159) is cheaper once a technician manages more than 53 devices. Most MSP technicians manage 150 to 400.
  • Both bills grow with fleet in practice: Atera's security and backup add-ons meter per device ($1.20 to $1.50), and NinjaOne's backup and MDM add-ons do too.
  • NinjaOne's strengths: patching depth, polish, and top-rated support. Atera's: the pricing model, an included Copilot since June 2026, and the autonomous Robin agent (price unpublished).
  • Terms: NinjaOne buyers report annual terms and a ~29% average negotiated discount; Atera annual plans auto-renew with a 60-day cancellation notice window.

Two good products, two opposite meters

NinjaOne and Atera are both mature, well-supported and widely loved, and they disagree about the most fundamental question in the category: what should the meter be? NinjaOne bills per endpoint, so the machine count is the bill. Atera bills per technician with unlimited endpoints, so the team size is the bill. Neither is tricking you; they are betting on different customer shapes.

The crossover maths

Divide Atera's per-technician price by NinjaOne's per-device rate and you get the fleet size per technician at which the two cost the same:

A typical MSP technician manages 150 to 400 endpoints, which is why per-technician pricing usually wins that comparison on paper. Two things pull it back: NinjaOne quotes fall with volume and negotiate well (29% average discount in Vendr's data), and Atera's per-device add-ons (antivirus at $1.20 to $1.25, Domotz at $1.50) mean fleet growth still reaches the invoice. Run your own fleet shape through both before deciding.

Beyond price: where each one shines

Choose NinjaOne if patching depth and operational polish are the priority. Its patch intelligence, support quality and general fit-and-finish top the review sites year after year, and at large fleets its per-device rates become genuinely good value.

Choose Atera if you are a small team with big fleets per person, want AI bundled rather than priced, and value being able to start with one technician seat and no minimums. Its June 2026 repricing folding Copilot into every plan was a genuinely customer-friendly move.

Where Helios fits, briefly

We compete with both, so one paragraph only: Helios prices flat per MSP (£99 to £399 by fleet band, plus a £4/device Launch tier), so neither the device count nor the headcount is the meter, and its AI investigates and fixes rather than assists. If that framing is interesting, the NinjaOne and Atera comparison pages give it the same honest treatment as this one. If not, either product above will serve you well, and we mean that.

Common questions

Is NinjaOne or Atera cheaper?

It depends on fleet shape: at a $3 per device NinjaOne quote, Atera Growth ($159 per technician per month) becomes cheaper once each technician manages more than 53 devices, and most MSP technicians manage 150 to 400.

How is NinjaOne priced compared to Atera?

NinjaOne bills per endpoint (published range $1.50 to $3.75 per endpoint per month by volume, quote-based), while Atera bills per technician with unlimited endpoints ($129 to $209 per technician per month billed annually).

Do NinjaOne and Atera include AI?

Atera includes its AI Copilot free on every plan since June 2026 with the autonomous Robin agent as an unpublished-price add-on; NinjaOne builds AI into patching and vulnerability remediation rather than offering a general assistant.

Does Atera really offer unlimited devices?

Technician seats cover unlimited endpoints, but antivirus, backup and network add-ons bill per device ($1.20 to $1.50 per device per month), so total cost still grows with fleet size.

What are the contract terms for NinjaOne and Atera?

NinjaOne buyers report annual terms as standard with an average 29% negotiated discount (Vendr, February 2026); Atera offers monthly or annual billing, with annual plans auto-renewing subject to a 60-day cancellation notice window.
