The best RMM for small MSPs and IT teams in 2026

By the Helios team · Last checked 30 September 2026

The best RMM for a small MSP or IT team depends on the job you need done. Level is the cheapest standalone RMM at $2 a device, Action1 is free for patching up to 200 endpoints, Syncro and Atera bundle a helpdesk from $129 per technician a month, and Helios includes the service desk and an AI that investigates and fixes problems, on published monthly pricing with no contract. Below, ten products are judged on the same six criteria, with the gap in each named plainly.

We have used these products ourselves, and we like and respect most of them. Most “best RMM” lists are published by an RMM vendor that comes first in its own list; that is simply how this market works. We make an RMM too, so where a rival is the better choice we say so, and we list our own gaps alongside everyone else’s.

The short answer

  • Cheapest standalone RMM: Level, $2 a device a month with the first ten free and no contract. No helpdesk.
  • Free for patching: Action1, free for the first 200 endpoints with no feature limits. Not a service desk.
  • All-in-one, priced per technician: Syncro, $129 Core or $179 Team per technician a month billed annually, with card payments built in.
  • Large fleets per technician: Atera, $129 to $209 per technician a month with unlimited endpoints. Its autonomous AI agent is priced separately.
  • AI that does the work, service desk included: Helios, every feature on every plan, monthly with no contract, and a price that never rises while you stay subscribed.
  • Free and self-hosted: Tactical RMM, if you will run the server yourself. Signed agents and single sign-on need a sponsorship from $55 a month.

How we judged them

Six things decide whether an RMM suits a small team, and they are the same six for every product here.

  1. Is the price published? A price you can read is a price you can plan around.
  2. What does the contract do? Term length, auto-renewal and how much the price may rise at renewal.
  3. Is there a minimum? Device or seat floors that a small estate pays for anyway.
  4. Is a service desk included? Or is ticketing a second product and a second bill.
  5. Does the AI act, or only summarise? Drafting and summaries save minutes; fixing problems saves hours.
  6. How fast is the first value? Minutes to the first machine reporting, or a project before anything works.

We make Helios, so read its entry with that in mind. Every other figure comes from our dated, sourced pricing pages, linked from each entry.

The picks

Cheapest standalone RMM: Level

Level charges $2 per endpoint a month, the first ten endpoints are free for as long as you like, and there is no contract. Monitoring, patching, scripting and remote access are all there. The gap is everything around the machines: there is no ticketing, SLA tracking or client portal, so a small MSP buys a PSA as well. Level pricing.

Free for patching: Action1

Action1 is free for the first 200 endpoints with no feature limits, and it patches Windows and third-party software well. Beyond 200 endpoints it is reported at around $4 per endpoint a month on its Growth tier. The gap is scope: estate monitoring, a service desk and client billing are not what it does. Helios vs Action1.

All-in-one, priced per technician: Syncro

Syncro costs $129 per technician a month on Core and $179 on Team, billed annually, with unlimited endpoints and a real price list. It has the most billing machinery here, including taking card payments from your clients. The gaps: the bill grows with every technician, add-ons beyond Microsoft 365 backup are not priced, and its automation is script and rule based. Syncro pricing.

Large fleets per technician: Atera

Atera charges $129 to $209 per technician a month billed annually, with unlimited endpoints, so it gets cheaper per device the more machines each technician looks after. Its AI Copilot became free on every plan in June 2026. The gaps: Robin, the autonomous agent, is billed separately per end user with no published price, and security and backup add-ons meter per device. Atera pricing.

AI that does the work, service desk included: Helios

Helios is an RMM and service desk in one product. Helio, its AI, investigates alerts, writes and runs the fix under per-client guardrails, keeps what works, and answers tickets. Every feature is on every plan, prices are published, billing is monthly with no contract, and a subscriber's price never rises while they stay subscribed. The gaps, honestly: it is newer than everything else on this page and has fewer reviews, it has no native phone app with remote control, project management is on the roadmap rather than built, and card payments run through Xero or QuickBooks rather than Helios itself. Helios pricing.

Endpoint management at scale: NinjaOne

NinjaOne publishes one range, $1.50 to $3.75 per endpoint a month by volume, and quotes everything else. Buyers report a floor of around $200 to $250 a month for small shops and renewal uplifts of 2.75% to 5% a year, and three-year terms are common. Ticketing is available as NinjaOne Ticketing. For a small team the question is the paperwork, not the product. NinjaOne pricing.

Free and self-hosted: Tactical RMM

Tactical RMM is free to run on your own server. Code-signed Windows agents, macOS and Linux agents and single sign-on need its Tier 1 sponsorship at $55 a month, and reporting needs Tier 2 at $80. The cost moves to your time: you host, patch and secure the server yourself. Tactical RMM pricing.

Quote-only heavyweights: N-able N-central and Datto RMM

N-central is reported at $1.50 to $3.50 per device a month, usually from around 100 devices, and Datto RMM at $2.50 to $4.50. Neither includes a helpdesk. For a small MSP the deciding factor is the agreement: N-able's lets renewals rise by up to 5% plus inflation and ratchets your device commitment up, and Datto RMM moved to a committed minimum in 2026. The 2026 price increase tracker.

If you want a deep PSA: HaloPSA with an RMM

HaloPSA costs £66 per agent a month in the UK with every module included, and it is the most configurable PSA here. It is a PSA only, so monitoring and patching come from a second product, and a required onboarding package is priced by scope. HaloPSA pricing.
